About Kelvin

The Kelvin Ensemble (commonly referred to as Kelvin) is the student-run orchestra for students at universities in Glasgow. We are a very friendly group of people, studying a wide range of courses, and are passionate about music!

We usually start auditioning for members at the end of September, and hold one concert at the end of Semester 1 (November) and Semester 2 (March). We also have a tour every May, after the end of exams.

Music

We play a wide range of symphony music, chosen by the Kelvin committee. Last year, our repertoire included the works of Tchaikovsky, Antonín Dvořák, Georges Bizet, Copland and more. A full list of our previous concerts can be found on the Past Concerts page.

Rehearsals

We usually have regular rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in the Concert Hall — one of the rooms within the Main Building of the University of Glasgow. We will often have additional rehearsals in the weekends during the run-up to concerts.

Auditions

We have many people eager to join Kelvin, so we hold auditions at the beginning of each academic year. For more information, please visit the Join page.
