Unfortunately, we won't be able to play as a full orchestra until it's safe and legal. Until then we plan on a strings only programme for first semester with brass, wind and percussion beginning to rehearse when it is allowed. We can't wait to get playing again.
The Kelvin Ensemble (commonly referred to as Kelvin) is the student-run orchestra for students at universities in Glasgow. We are a very friendly group of people, studying a wide range of courses, and are passionate about music!
We usually start auditioning for members at the end of September, and hold one concert at the end of Semester 1 (November) and Semester 2 (March). We also have a tour every May, after the end of exams.
MusicWe play a wide range of symphony music, chosen by the Kelvin committee. Last year, our repertoire included the works of Tchaikovsky, Antonín Dvořák, Georges Bizet, Copland and more. A full list of our previous concerts can be found on the Past Concerts page.
We usually have regular rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in the Concert Hall — one of the rooms within the Main Building of the University of Glasgow. We will often have additional rehearsals in the weekends during the run-up to concerts.
We have many people eager to join Kelvin, so we hold auditions each academic year. For more information, please visit the Join page.
